Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country returns to action on Saturday as the Panthers competed in the Indiana State John McNichols Invitational.
 
The meet will feature a men's 8K race at 8 am and a women's 5K race at 8:45 am, both taking place at the LaVern Gibson Championship cross country course.  (Times are Central Time)
 
The meet will feature teams from host Indiana State, Eastern Illinois, Ball State, DePauw, Evansville, Huntington, Indiana, Indiana Wesleyan, Lansing CC, Madonna, Maryville, Purdue, Rose-Hulman, Vincennes University and Western Michigan. 
 
EIU posted a pair of team wins during its season opening Walt Crawford Open that included first place individual finishes by Lindsey Carlson for the women and Jaime Marcos for the men.  Both runners were named the OVC Female and Male Runners of the Week after the opening week event.
 
EIU enters the event with the men's team ranked 11th in the Midwest Regional rankings.  In the season opening meet, Marcos led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the EIU men with Andrew Pilat, Franky Romano and Will Bullock following Marcos across the finish line.
 
On the women's side Carlson posted the fastest EIU 5K time ever on the Tom Woodall Panther Trail.  Carlson led three Panthers in the top five finishers with Kate Bushue in third and Avani Flanagan in fifth.
