ON-TAP:Â Eastern Illinois swimming will travel to Carbondale, Ill. on Friday to take on the Salukis of Southern Illinois for their final away meet of the season. The Panthers will travel back to Padovan Pool on Saturday, Jan. 29 to close out the season against Valparaiso. Both EIU teams lost last weekend at Wabash College when the men's faced Wabash and the women's faced DePauw.
SENIOR DAY: EIU will be honoring their seniors on Saturday's meet against Valparaiso. The men's team will honor the following four seniors:
Alex Adams,
Forrest Baumgartner,
Jarod Farrow, and
Joel Talley. The women's team will honor the following seven seniors:
Katy Black,
Sabrina Chu,
Ashley Glesing,
Grace Hamrick,
Jessica Harris,
Maddie Pittman, and Caroline Shivel.
SWIMMER TO WATCH:Â Jacob Nichols earned four first place finishes last weekend at Wabash College. He was part of both the 200 yard medley (1:37.65) team and the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.45) team. Individually, he won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.27 and he also won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54.66. He led all Panthers last meet with four first place finishes.
HISTORY:Â Earlier this season both Panthers squad faced off against Valparaiso at Valparaiso, Ind. The men's team won the meet by a score of 155-107 and the women's team also won by a score of 167-95. EIU also competed against Southern Illinois in the SIU A3 Performance Invite at Carbondale, Ill. The men's team finished fifth in the meet while the women's team finished in fourth. Both SIU teams finished in first.
NEXT UP:Â After the Panthers complete their last regular season meet on Saturday, EIU will compete in the Summit League Championships starting Wednesday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 20Â in West Fargo, N.D. Times will be announced later.
HEAD COACH: Coach Donges comes to EIU after a successful one-year stop at Anderson University where he coached swimmers on the men's and women's teams to 22 school records last season. In 2019, Donges was head coach at the EXOS/Bryan Glazer Jewish Community Center in Tampa, Florida. He developed the swimming fitness program for the team and was in charge of recruiting for the club. He coached for seven years with Yorktown Swim Club, beginning in 2012, taking over as head coach in 2015. During his time as head coach, Donges oversaw the direction of swimming for all athletes at the Yorktown Swim Club. He also took the lead in marketing and recruitment associated with Yorktown Swim Club. He graduated from Ball State University with both a bachelor's and master's degree.
