PEORIA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois cross country competed in its final meet prior to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships as the Panthers ran on Friday at the Bradley "Pink" Classic.
The EIU men placed 10th in the field led by
Dustin Hatfield's top ten finish. The Panther women were 17th in the field in a race ran at the 6K distance.
Kate Bushue led the EIU women's team with a top ten school performance.
Hatfield placed seventh in the race with a time of 23:42.7. Ryan Martins of Loyola-Chicago was the race winner as the Ramblers edged Wichita State by two points for the first place finish on the men's side.
Adam Swanson and
Andrew Pilat both added top 100 finishes for EIU in the race with Swanson placing 64th at 24:32.1 and Pilat in at 89th with a time of 24:46.8.
Bushue was the EIU women's top finisher crossing in 45th with a 6K time of 21:24.5 which ranks fourth all-time at EIU. Carmen Riano of Miami (Ohio) was the women's race winner while Northwestern won the women's team title.
Sarah Carr joined Bushue in the top 100 finishers in the race crossing in 89th with a time of 21:56.5.
Mackenzie Aldridge,
Katie Springer and
Alex Gomez rounded out the top five scored EIU runners in the race. Aldridge was 123rd with a time of 22:13.6. Springer was 141st with a time of 22:20.9. Gomez was 167th with a time of 22:36.6.
Sam Mabry and
Julia Monson were the sixth and seventh EIU women's runners to finish. Mabry posted a time of 23:04.2 to finish 196th with Monson running a 6K time of 23:38.7 to finish 235th.
On the men's side
Josh Whitaker and
Richie Jacobo rounded out the five Panthers scored runners. Whitaker was 112th with a time of 24:59.9 while Jacobo was 133rd with a time of 25:09.5.
A pair of freshmen runners closed out the sixth and seventh spots for EIU with
Noah Schalliol in 167th at 25:28.0 and
Mason Stoeger in 188th at 25:42.5.
EIU returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the OVC Championships hosted by Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.
