Indoor Track Open Season With 23 First Place Finishes

Three Panthers enter the top ten all-time at EIU

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men and women's indoor track opened their 2022-23 season with the annual EIU Early Bid Meet hosted in Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. Second year head coach Keith Roberts led the Panthers to 23 first place finishes in their opening meet.

Bradley Olysav started his season off on the right foot after posting a first place finish in the men's weight throw with a throw of 17.81m (58'5.25"). His throw ranks eighth all-time in school history and set his new career best. Clayre Shaver on the women's team also won the weight throw with a toss of 15.83m (51'11.25") which also set a career high.

Matthew Gladieux (15.48m/50'9.50") and Taylor Iverson (12.29m/40'4") both took home first place finishes in the shot put. Iverson also set a new personal best in that event.

Both teams also swept the pole vault with Hallee Thomas winning with a height of 3.36m (11'0.25") and Zac Stout with a 3.81m (12'6"). Thomas' height set a new career best and now ranks 10th all-time in school history.

During the jumps, Holly Vogt collected a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.26m (17'3.25"). Ramsey Hunt continued were he left off last indoor season with a win in the long jump with a 7.30m distance (23'11.50).

Hunt also earned first place in triple jump with a distance of 13.72m. Taryn Tarquin got her first win of the season in the triple after posting a jump of 11.16m. Carly Guinn (1.56m) and Porter Conroy (2.03m) both got on the board with wins in the high jump.

Akiya Kollore coming off a successful indoor season last year started off with a seventh best time in school history in the 60 meter hurdle with a time of 8.54. She was currently ranked seventh with a time of 8.55 but took down her old record by 0.01. Jekeel Suber also won the men's 60m hurdle with a time of 8.34.

The 400 meter dash was swept by Josiah Neal and Taylor Wright as both captured a first place finish. Neal ran a time of 51.25 while Wright pushed for a time of 1:00.34. Two Panthers tied for first in the men's 60 meter dash with Jahleel Perrin and Brailyn Johnson posting a time of 6.93. Danielle Frank also won on the women's side with a time of 7.91.

Mckenna Wojcicki ran her first ever 800 while also capturing first place with a final time of 2:27.78. Riley Baker also started off hot to the season with a win in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:22.41. Baker was a two-time OVC first team for indoor last season.

The 200 meter saw both Zakiya and Ricky Johnson take home the gold for both teams. Z. Johnson posted a time of 25.65 on the women's side while R. Johnson ran a 21.89.

Both 4x400 meter relay teams dashed to the final first place finishes of the night. The women's team of Wright, Z. Johnson, Shanisa Stinson, and Kollore posted a time of 4:03.52. The men's team of Neal, R Johnson, Greg Downs, and Baker took the gold with a time of 3:27.09.

Indoor track will take a holiday break before coming back for the annual John Craft Invite hosted in Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. The meet will be on Saturday, Jan. 14 starting at 10 a.m.
