Eastern Illinois men's tennis will open play at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon as the Panthers will face Austin Peay in the opening round at 2 pm. The event will be held this year at the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind.
This is EIU's first appearance in the OVC Tournament since the 2019 season as the 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 and last season only the top four teams in the OVC advanced to the OVC Tournament.
During the Panthers last appearance in 2019, EIU went 1-1 in the OVC Tournament beating Austin Peay in the opening round before losing to Tennessee Tech.
EIU enters the tournament with a 3-21 record including an 0-4 mark in the OVC. Austin Peay enters at 5-9 overall, 1-3 in the OVC.
In the previous match this season, APSU won 6-1 over EIU. The Governors won the doubles point winning two of three matches including a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles.
Cameron Slabbert had his match at No. 3 singles pushed to three sets before a loss.
Pau Riera picked up the lone win for EIU at No. 6 singles.
