Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis will both travel for Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as the Panthers visit Austin Peay for both programs to compete on Saturday. The women will then travel to face Murray State in an OVC match on Sunday.
Women's Preview
The EIU women will play a pair of OVC matches this weekend after not competing last week. The Panthers opened OVC play two weeks ago with a pair of OVC matches. EIU is now 2-14 overall, 0-2 in the OVC.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova opened the OVC season with a pair of wins at No. 2 singles winning both matches in three sets. She now has five wins in singles play this spring.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos picked up her seventh singles win of the season at the No. 1 position as she opened conference play with a 1-1 mark.
In doubles play
Addison Brown and
Christine Gouws had both of their matches at No. 1 doubles left unfinished in OVC play with the pair leading in both matches. Brown and Gouws have five wins in doubles play this spring but have now had four of their doubles matches left unfinished.
Austin Peay enters the weekend at 5-5 on the season, 1-0 in the OVC. Murray State is 8-7 overall, 1-1 in the OVC.
Men's Preview
The EIU men will play their second weekend of OVC action as they face Austin Peay. The Panthers lost their OVC opener last weekend at Tennessee Tech as they are now 3-17 overall, 0-1 in the OVC.
Tyler Carlin picked up a win for EIU at No. 4 singles in the match marking the first time that EIU had secured a point in a match against Tennessee Tech since the 2016 season. It was the second win this season for Carlin at No. 4 singles.
Pau Riera nearly picked up a second point for EIU in the match. Riera won the opening set at No. 6 singles before losing the second set. He would then fall in a third set tiebreak.
In doubles play
Thomas Wallace and
Christos Kyrillou lost their OVC opener. The pair are now 7-2 this season at No. 1 doubles and have been named the OVC Men's Doubles Team of the Week on two occasions this season.
Austin Peay enters the match at 4-6 overall, 0-1 in the OVC.
