The Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis programs were both well represented as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2022 Scholar-Athlete and All-Academic Team Awards.
EIU had a total of nine men's players and eight women's players received ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition while both Panthers teams earned ITA Academic Team awards.
The nine EIU men's players earning ITA Scholar-Athlete honors were
Leighton Brandon,
Kyle Burton,
Tyler Carlin,
Charles Courteau,
Christos Kyrillou,
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic,
Cameron Slabbert,
Will Ulrich and
Thomas Wallace.
On the women's side the eight EIU players honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes were Elisavet Bukraba-Ulanova,
Lauren Ellis,
Christine Gouws,
Rachel Papavasilopoulos,
Claire Perez-Korinko,
Ashlee Shinabery, Katilyn Snyder and
Brittany Steven.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete student-athletes had to meet the following criteria; 1.) have a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and 2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
For a team to be an ITA All-Academic team programs must meet the following requirements; 1.) have a team GPA of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale), 2.) all student-athletes included my listed on the institutional form and 3.) all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
EIU was one of 163 men's programs and 250 women's programs at the NCAA Division I level to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors.
