Cross Country Men 2nd, Women 5th At ISU Redbird Invite

Cross country competes in second meet of the season

MEN'S RESULTS  |  WOMEN'S RESULTS

NORMAL, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country returned to action on Friday evening as the Panthers competed at the Illinois State Redbird Invite.
 
The EIU men placed second in the 8K event while the EIU women were fifth running at the 6K distance.
 
Dustin Hatfield competed in his first meet of the season placing third with a time of 24:09.5.  Former EIU cross country runner Jaime Marcos was the event winner running unattached with Christopher Collet of Wartburg placing second. 
 
Wartburg would win the men's race scoring 43 points with Eastern Illinois second with 54 points and host Illinois State in third.
 
On the women's side Butler would win the women's title followed by Wartburg in second.  The EIU women placed fifth with Kate Bushue the top Panther finisher in 20th with a time of 22:47.5.
 
Andrew Pilat and Adam Swanson both turned in top ten finishes for the EIU men.  Pilat was sixth with a time of 24:51.2.  Swanson was 10th with a time of 25:06.4.
 
Richie Jacobo and Josh Whitaker rounded out the five scored EIU runners.  Jacobo was 17th crossing in 25:35.3 while Whitaker was 23rd with a time of 25:55.5.
 
On the women's side Sarah Carr and Mackenzie Aldridge followed behind Bushue in the top 30 for EIU.  Carr was 24th with a time of 22:58.2  Aldridge was 27th with a time of 23:11.4. 
 
Sam Mabry and Breanna Sheldon were the final two EIU women's scored runners.  Mabry was 33rd with a time of 23:27.0.  Sheldon was 41st with a time of 23:58.0.
 
Mason Stoeger and Noah Schalliol closed out the top seven EIU men's runners.  Stoeger in 31st at 26:09.4 and Schalliol in 38th at 26:25.7.
 
Alex Gomez and Katie Springer closed out the top seven EIU women's runners. Gomez in 42nd at 23:59.5 and Springer in 47th at 24:10.5.
