Eastern Illinois men's tennis opens the 2023 spring season on Friday with the Panthers playing at Ball State.
The Panthers return five players from last season with
Thomas Wallace a returning All-OVC selection in doubles. Wallace also posted a team-high eight wins in singles play.
Cameron Slabbert had six wins in singles play followed by
Pau Riera with five singles wins.
During the fall season EIU had solid contributions from several players including
Tyler Carlin who picked up a pair of singles wins and doubles wins (playing with Wallace) at the EIU Hidden Dual event.
EIU will play this spring as an affiliate member of the Horizon League as the remaining OVC men's tennis programs have entered a partnership with the remaining Horizon League members with the two leagues playing for an automatic NCAA bid at the Horizon League Championship in late April. The Panthers were picked fourth in the preseason poll.
Following the opening match at Ball State, EIU will return to action on February 4 hosting Quincy and St. Francis (Ill.) at the Danville Tennis Center.
