EIU Swim Splits Meet at Southern Indiana

EIU women's swim defeated USI by a score of 113-110

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Eastern Illinois swimming split their head-to-head meet on Saturday afternoon against Southern Indiana in Evansville. The women's team (4-5) won by a final score of 113-110 while EIU men's team (3-6) lost by a final score of 129-102.

In the 200 yard medley relay, the women's team of Olivia Viele, Corinne Staneart, Kaylan Ottosen and Camryn Lewis posted a first place time of 1:51.02. The men's team in the same event finish in second place with a team of Andrew Herman, Canyon Bain, Alex Adams and Dismas Dillon (1:38.13).

Kennedy Darensbourg received a second place finish in the women's 1000 yard freestyle after posting a time of 11:01.60. Spencer Wilson also earned a second place on the men's side with a time of 10:13.83.

Conner Colston earned the first gold for the men's team in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.54 while Phoebe Croston earned a second place on the women's side with a time of 2:01.55 to set her new personal best.

Lewis and Grinter took home first and second in the 50 free for the EIU women's team with time sof 24.90 and 25.22 while Dillon and Jacob Wienants earned second and third place finishes on the men's side with times of 22.02 and 22.33.

The women's team continued their success in the 100 IM while Corinne Staneart taking home first place with a time of 1:00.40 while Genevieve Biberdorf earned a second place and a new personal best of 1:03.57.  Herman also took home gold on the men's side with a time of 53.47 (new PR). 

Both teams swept the gold in the men and women's 100 butterfly after Viele posted a time of 59.65 and Sebastian Rosales earned a time of 52.89. The Panthers also swept first places in the 100 free with Grinter (54.97) and Colston (47.33) winning for EIU.

Herman would come back for his second win of the meet after taking home first in the 100 yard backstroke with a final time of 53.06.

Over in the long distance races, Darensbourg finished in second in the 500 free with a time of 5:29.43 while Wilson earned first for the men's with a time of 4:50.62.

Staneart would also earn her second first place finish of the meet after winning the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.44. Biberdorf would earn third in the same event with a time of 1:12.12.

Eastern Illinois would end the meet with two relay wins for both teams. The women's 200 freestyle relay team of Grinter, Glasgow, Lewis and Ottosen took home first after posting a time of 1:39.79. The men's team of Wienantz, Dillon, Colston and Oliver Ehmann finished with a 1:26.95.

EIU will be back tomorrow for their final regular season meet of the season when they go to Butler for the Butler Invitational starting at 11 a.m.
