GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Eastern Illinois women's swimming team took part in the Davenport Invite in Grand Rapids this weekend. The two-day event was a tri-meet that saw EIU compete against the hosting Davenport Panthers and the St. Ambrose Bees. The Panthers earned a few first-place finishes and won their day two dual with Saint Ambrose 109.50-92.50.
On the first day of competition, junior
Autumn Grinter won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.07.
Fellow junior
Olivia Viele took second place in the 100 butterfly (59.02) and third-place in the 100 backstroke (59.19).
Senior
Emma Keith earned a runner up finish with a time of 59.19 in the 100 free, while junior
Izzy Glasgow finished third in the 50 free with a time of 25.04.
The EIU 200 medley relay team of Viele,
Corinne Staneart,
Kaylan Ottosen, and Grinter came second in the 200 medley relay (1:48.68).
On day two,
Autumn Grinter picked up another first-place finish with a 53.20 time in the 100 freestyle.
Corinne Staneart recorded second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:12.01) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.14).
Kaylan Ottosen clocked a time of 24.94 in the 50 freestyle, which earned her a second-place finish.
Freshman
Erika Baber earned a top-three finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 53.20, while
Kennedy Darensbourg finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:34.76).
The team of Grinter, Ottosen, Glasgow, and Viele picked up the Panthers' third event win of the weekend with a 1:38.61 time in the 200 free relay.
The Panthers will head to Louisville next week to take part in the Bellarmine Tri. The action is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 21
st. EIU will host their first home meet of the season on October 28
th when they dual with Quincy.
