EIU Swimming Heads to Summit League Championships

Panthers will compete in four day event in Minneapolis, Minn.

EIU Men (3-6) and Women's Swimming (4-5) at Summit League Championships
Wednesday, Feb. 22 - Saturday, Feb. 25

ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois' swimming closes out their season at the Summit League Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. where all eight teams from the conference will compete. The four day meet will take place at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The following teams will compete for the title this season: Eastern Illinois, Denver, Lindenwood, Omaha, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Indiana and St. Thomas.

2021 CHAMPIONSHIPS: Last season, both Panther squads finished in sixth place at the Summit League Championships in West Fargo, N.D. The women's team finish with a total of 208 while the men's team posted a team score of 217.

LAST TIME OUT: The Panthers last swam on Sunday, January 29 at the Butler Invitational. Both team posted fifth place finishes. The men's team finished with 675 points out of six teams while the women's finished fifth out of seven team with a total of 518.

Camryn Lewis was the top Panther at the meet after posting a fifth place in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.54. She was tabbed as the Eastern Illinois swimmer to watch at the Summit League Championships.

 Corinne Staneart posted a ninth place time in Indianapolis, Ind. with a time of 1:07.88 in the women's 100 yard breaststroke. Later in the meet, she would finish in seventh place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:11.73.

SUMMIT LEAGUE TOP TEP: Five swimmers from EIU swimming are in the top ten in times in the Summit League this season. For the men's team, Andrew Herman ranks eighth in the Summit League in the 50 back with a time of 23.24 which he posted at the A3 Performance Invite.

Isabella Earll enters the top ten in the women's 50 freestyle after posting a 22.72 time in our meet against Southern Illinois. She now ranks third in the league. Lewis remains in the top ten with her time of 23.50 in the 50 yard freestyle which puts her in 10th place in the league.

Kennedy Darensbourg reenters the top ten list in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:40.01. She now ranks 10th in the Summit League. Staneart remains the highest ranking Panther in any event after ranking third in the Summit League in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.97.

HEAD COACH: An experienced coach at the collegiate level with additional experience on the international level, Johnathan Jordan comes to EIU following a seven-year stint as the head coach at Lincoln College where he helped grow the program from a two-year college program to a member swimming at the NAIA level. He becomes the ninth coach in school history at EIU.
 
On the international level, Jordan was a member of the Marshall Islands Swimming Federation coaching staff with athletes competing in the World Championships, Pacific Games Oceania Games and the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.   He also worked on the Fiji Swimming Federation coaching staff for one summer helping develop the program's Olympic qualification standards and as a member of the Oceania National Olympic Committee.
