Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season With Several Wins

Panthers pick up wins in both singles and doubles play

Eastern Illinois men's tennis picked up both singles and doubles wins over the weekend at the River Forest Collegiate Tournament which included players from eight different schools.
 
In singles action both Tyler Carlin and Gui Cauvilla had opening round wins in their draws placing them in the winner's bracket on Saturday.
 
Carlin beat Hugh Perrill of Marquette (6-4, 5-7, (7) in the No. 5 draw before eventually losing in the third place singles match to Adrian Quiros of Western Michigan.
 
Cauvilla beat Koji Heineman of Marquette (6-4, 6-0) in the opening round of the No. 7 draw and eventually finished playing in the No. 4 draw winning the third place match over Caden Scarlett of Illinois State, 6-2, 6-2.
 
William Hays lost on the opening day but rallied on Saturday for a pair of wins to place fifth overall in the No. 6 draw clinching the consolation bracket title.  He beat Avi Mahajan of Washington University and Suo Nan on Northern Illinois.
 
In doubles play EIU picked up round one wins in both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights.
 
Pieke Bouman and Zach White won in the No. 1 draw beating a team from Northern Illinois in the opening round, 7-5.
 
Alex Aldaz and Ludolph Wiggett picked up a 6-4 win over Western Michigan in the opening round of the No. 2 draw as both teams would finish in third in their respective flights.
