CHICAGO, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swim teams opened up the new year with a meet at UIC in Friday. The men fell by a score of 90-168, while they women lost 70-168.Â
On the men's side,
Conner Colston and
Dismas Dillon both picked up first-place finishes for the Panthers. Colston won the 200 free with a time of 1:42.40, while Dillon took gold in the 50 free with a clip of 21.41.Â
Colston also picked up a third-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 47.45.Â
Other EIU men to earn podium finishes included
Sebastian Rosales and
Gavin Frigon, who finished second (53.24) and third (53.95) in the 100 fly, as well as
Andrew Herman and
Andrew Simonek, who were second (2:04.86) and third (2:09.20) in the 200 IM.Â
Nolan Wallace picked up two third-place finishes in the 100 breast (58.90) and 50 free (22.76) while Eddie Meyers clocked a season best time of 9:58.23 to finish third in the 1,000 free.
Joseph Wyatt also earned a bronze with a time of 1:59.60 in the 200 fly.Â
For the women,
Corinne Staneart and
Autumn Grinter led the charge with a trio of top-three finishes each. Staneart placed second in the 200 breast (2:25.36) and 200 IM (2:13.93), while picking up a bronze in the 100 breast (1:08.18)
Grinter also collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 free (24.57) and 100 fly (1:00.56) while adding a third-place performance in the 100 free (54.52).Â
Meanwhile,
Kaylan Ottosen picked up a couple of third-place finishes in the 200 free (2:02.05) and 100 fly (1:01.93)Â
Eastern's meet at Lewis originally scheduled for Saturday was canceled. The Panthers will be back in action on Friday as they host Lewis at Padovan Pool. Competition is set to get underway at 4 p.m.Â
