ON TAP: The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swim teams are set to host Lewis this Friday for their first and only home meet of the season. It will be the first meet hosted at Padovan Pool since January of last year.
Following Friday's dual, the Panthers will travel to Southern Illinois to take on the Salukis. Eastern previously competed in Carbondale at the SIU A3 Performance Invite in November.
LEWIS:
- This will be the third consecutive season that EIU and Lewis have competed against each other, with their last meeting coming on November 4, 2023.
- The teams were scheduled to square off in a tri-meet in Romeoville last Saturday, but the event was canceled.
- The Lewis men boast a 7-1 overall record, with their lone loss coming against Chicago back in October. They placed third at the IU Indy House of Champions Invitational their last time out.
- The women are 6-4 on the season, with all four losses coming away from home. They placed 12th in their last event at IU Indy.
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS:
- The Panthers and Salukis last ran into each other at the SIU A3 Performance Invite, which was held in Carbondale on November 14-16.
- The two teams have not faced off in a dual since the 2022-23 season.
- The Saluki women are 6-0 on the season, while the men are 3-3.
- Both teams finished first at the A3 Performance Invite.
LAST TIME OUT: EIU returned to action last Friday at UIC with multiple Panthers earning podium finishes.
On the men's side,Â
Conner Colston andÂ
Dismas Dillon both picked up first-place finishes for the Panthers. Colston won the 200 free with a time of 1:42.40, while Dillon took gold in the 50 free with a clip of 21.41.Â
Colston also picked up a third-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 47.45.Â
For the women,Â
Corinne Staneart andÂ
Autumn Grinter led the charge with a trio of top-three finishes each. Staneart placed second in the 200 breast (2:25.36) and 200 IM (2:13.93), while picking up a bronze in the 100 breast (1:08.18)
Grinter also collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 free (24.57) and 100 fly (1:00.56) while adding a third-place performance in the 100 free (54.52).
TOP CONFERENCE TIMES: Olivia Viele's 100 fly time of 56.39 is seventh fastest in the Summit League this season.
SENIOR DAY: Friday's home meet will also serve as a Senior Day celebration, with a total of 10 Panthers set to be recognized.
NEXT UP: Eastern will travel to Evansville the next two weekends. The Panthers are scheduled to take on Southern Indiana in a Summit League clash on Saturday, January 25th at 1 p.m. before taking part in the Evansville Invite the following Friday, January 31st.
HEAD COACH: Scott Teeters is in his first season as Eastern Illinois head swimming coach. Teeters has nearly 40 years of coaching experience, including 25 at the collegiate level. He has led Division I programs at Eastern Michigan, Oakland, and Gardner Webb. He also served as head coach at Olivet Nazarene University where he guided his teams to three national championships, including back-to-back men's championships in 2016 and 2017, and a women's championship in 2017. Teeters has also served in multiple leadership roles for USA Swimming.Â
