ON TAP: The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swim teams head north this weekend to compete in a pair of meets in the Chicagoland area. The Panthers will battle UIC in Chicago on Friday before heading to Romeoville to take on Lewis and St. Ambrose in a tri-meet on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: Eastern's last competition was the SIU A3 Performance Invite in mid-November.
Olivia Viele earned a podium finish in the 200 fly A-Final with a time of 2:05.46 while also clocking a team best time of 56.39 in the 100 fly.
Meanwhile,
Autumn Grinter clocked a pair of season-best times, winning the 50 free B-Final with a time of 24.02 and finishing the 100 free B-Final in 53.11 seconds. Also on the women's side,
Genevieve Biberdorf won the B-Final of the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:24.03, while
Izzy Glasgow placed second in the 100 back B-Final with a time of 59.13.
For the men,
Conner Colston posted a pair of team season-bests with a time of 1:42.07 in the 200 free A-Final and a time of 46.17 in the 100 free B-Final. Other highlights included
Eddie Myers' team-best time of 4:47.94 in the 500 free and
Andrew Herman's third-place finish in the 200 breast B-Final (2:09.31).
TOP LEAGUE TIMES: Olivia Viele's 100 fly time of 56.39 is the seventh fastest time in the Summit League this season.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES:  Corinne Staneart andÂ
Dismas Dillon were named to the Summit League Swimming & Diving Athletes to Watch List. Staneart was one of the Panthers' top scorers a season ago, as she posted multiple top 10 times in EIU program history. She currently holds school records in the 100 breast (1:04.34) and 200 breast (2:20.06), which she set as a sophomore during the 2022-23 season.
Dillon led the EIU men in scoring last season and set a new school record in the 50 free with a time of 20.28 at the Summit League Championships, which placed him first in the B final. Dillon also holds the school record in the 100 fly (50.19), which he set at the 2023 Summit League Championships.
PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: The EIU men's team was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League, while the women were tabbed to finish in seventh place. Denver was selected to win both the men's and women's championships.
NEXT UP: The Panthers will host Lewis next Friday at Padovan Pool. It will be EIU's only home meet of the season. The action is set to get underway at 4 p.m.Â
HEAD COACH: Scott Teeters is in his first season as Eastern Illinois head swimming coach. Teeters has nearly 40 years of coaching experience, including 25 at the collegiate level. He has led Division I programs at Eastern Michigan, Oakland, and Gardner Webb. He also served as head coach at Olivet Nazarene University where he guided his teams to three national championships, including back-to-back men's championships in 2016 and 2017, and a women's championship in 2017. Teeters has also served in multiple leadership roles for USA Swimming.
