Eastern Illinois women's basketball head coach
Marqus McGlothan has announced the signing of Miranda Del Mar Rodríguez Sánchez, a high school guard from Spain.
Â
Sánchez (5'9") plays club basketball for CBIC SPAR Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands.  This past season she averaged double figures helping lead the team to the FEB Junior Spanish Club Championship. She ended the season being named an All-First Division selection for the year.
Â
Because of her efficient performances at the Junior level, Miranda earned the opportunity to play a few games in Spain's top professional league. When she played minutes for Spar Gran Canaria against Euroleague powerhouse Perfumerías Avenida she competed against former WNBA players: Shavonte Zellous and Abby Meyers. :
Â
"Miranda brings both international playing experience and championship experience to our program. While her stats from the club level may not jump off the page; her ability to win, make hustle plays, defend, and make her teammates better when watching her in person standout immediately," said McGlothan. "She is an athletic guard who can get to the rim and shoot from the perimeter. I am most excited about her ability to get steals; she does a great job of using her wingspan to turn defense into offense. We are excited to add her to our team for next season."
Â
She becomes the sixth player set to join the Panthers roster for next season. Itxasne Fernandez Arguello (Otero JC), a junior college forward from Spain along with Nevaeh Dickman, a forward from Loyola Chicago and Lana Koricanac, a guard from Troy signed out of the transfer portal this spring. They join high school products Alahnna Simpson (La Crosse, Wis. / La Crosse Central HS) and Dalia Grandberry (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Rolling Meadows HS), who both signed with the Panthers in November.
