2014-15 EIU Year In Review - No. 8

EIU men's track wins 15th OVC Outdoor Championship

EIU men's track and field returned to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference as the Panthers won the 2015 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  It was the 15th OVC Outdoor Championship for the Panther men and sixth in the last seven years.
 
During the OVC Championship meet senior Ephraim Dorsey set the OVC record in the 800m while the Panthers 4x100m relay team set the school and OVC record.  The relay team included Johnathan Boey, Calvin Edwards, Jamal Robinson and Norvel Mohammed.  Mohammed was named the OVC Male Athlete of the Championships.
 
EIU would go on to qualify six individuals and two relay teams for the NCAA West Regional.  Competing at the Regional Meet were Boey, Dorsey, Edwards, Mohammed, David Johansson and Kendall Williams.  EIU qualified both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams for the NCAA Regional.
 
Tom Akers would be named the OVC Coach of the Year for men's outdoor track winning an OVC Coach of the Year honor for the 40th time in his career.  During the indoor season Akers was honored at a celebration for 20-years as the Panthers head track coach.
