NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior
Francisco Cherizola led all Eastern Illinois golfers with a Top 20 finish at the two-day Illinois State Intercollegiate, played at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill.
The Queretaro, Mexica native shot a 16-over-par 226 total to tie for 17th place out of the 89 golfers competiting.
Sophomores
Gino Parrodi and
David Lawrence followed with a 26th place tie, as each shot a 228 total (+18) at the Par 70, 6681 yard course.
Rounding out the Panther contingent was senior
Matt Bird and freshman
Travis Smyczynski, tying for 54th and 87th place, respectively.
Team-wise, the Panthers finished in eighth place out of 15 competing squads with a 75-over 915 score, finishing ahead of instate-foes Southern Illinois (10th), SIU-Edwardsville (12), and Bradley (15th). The host team, Illinois State, won the team title with a +33 873 total, while ISU's Jeff Kellen earned individual honors.
Eastern has just one more meet on the fall slate, competing at the three-day Austin Peay Invitational on Oct. 18-20, where the Panthers will face several fellow Ohio Valley Conference foes, including the host Governors.
