LEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore
Gino Parrodi led all Eastern Illinois golfers with a 29th place finish at the two-day John Dallio Memorial, hosted by DePaul, as the Panthers finished in 14th place.
Played at the Par 72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill., the Queretaro, Mexico native fired a final round of 81, after previously hitting two rounds of 76. He started the final round tied for 22nd, but fell to his final finish.
Francisco Cherizola, also from Queretaro, Mexico, had a disappointing round of 85 on Monday, after previously being tied for 10th place following two rounds of 74, the junior hit an 85 to also tie for 29th place with Parrodi.
Other Panther competitors included sophomores
David Lawrence and
Sean Dozier and senior
Matt Bird. Lawrence tied for 54th place with a +25 finish of 241, Dozier tied for 61st with a +29 245 standing and Bird tied for 75th place.
Team-wise, the Panthers were actually in fourth place following the first round of action on Sunday, then faltered a bit in the second round action to sit in sixth place, and finally added 23 strokes to their game on Monday, faltering to 14th place out of the 16 squads competing.
The host Blue Demons won the team title off of DePaul's Greg Doherty's one-over-par 217.
Instate foes Western Illinois and Southern Illinois captured third and 13th place, respectively, while the Panthers outlasted both Bradley and Loyola (Chicago), who finished in the last two team spots.
With three more fall events on the slate, the Panthers will next play in the three-day Butler Invitational on Oct. 5-6, with a practice round scheduled for Oct. 4.
