WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Eastern Illinois women's rugby ran past Purdue for a 65-5 road win on Saturday (Oct. 25) morning, as the Panthers snapped a recent two-game losing streak with the rout.

The win moves the Panthers to 2-4 on the season as Eastern now enjoy an 8-0 all-time series lead over the Boilermakers.  The contest was a late addition to both squad's fall schedules.

Sophomore Breanna Young erupted for seven trys and 35 points on the day, as she scampered for the first four Panther scores to help EIU jump out to a 22-0 advantage, with the additional of a two-point conversion from junior Hannah Vieth.  She finished with three runs over 20-yards.

Those seven trys and 35 points for Young sits as a Top 5 performance in the Panther single-game record books.

Newcomer Deairelle Ivy added a pair of trys and two big runs of her own as Eastern enjoyed a sizeable 36-5 halftime lead after the host Boilermakers secured their lone score in the first half.

Ivy added another score, while Young secured three additional runs for a score in the second frame.  Vieth chipped in her own try and two additional two-point conversions for the final margin of victory for the Panthers.

Eastern also dished out nine total assists in the rout, led by four from senior Carissa Burge, while sophomore Sara Fisher also had three assists of her own.

Defensively, seniors Carissa Burge and Kim Youhas secured 12 and 11 solo tackles to lead all players, while newcomer Jessica Maricich tallied three steals-at-tackle.
