SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Eastern Illinois women's rugby blanked Notre Dame, 37-0, in a Saturday (Nov. 8) afternoon road contest, as the Panthers finished the 2014 campaign with two final wins to improve to 3-4 on the year.
Sophomore Breanna Young erupted for four trys on the day, while junior Jasmine Gardner ran in a pair of scores, followed by a five-pointer from sophomore Sara Fisher.
Junior Hannah Vieth added one two-point conversion on the day to finish 1-for-7. Â Seniors Ellen Wilson and Carissa Burge ended their fine Panther careers with a pair of assists in the rout.
Eastern jumped out to a 17-0 halftime advantage before adding 20 additional points in the final frame to earn their second win over the Fighting Irish in the two lone meetings between the Midwest rivals.
Defensively, newcomer Jessica Maricich led with 20 solo stops, while senior Kim Youhas added 14 and fellow freshman Lynn Webb chipped in 13 of her own. Â Sophonmore Kaitlyn Hammock led her squad with a pair of steals-at-tackle.
