VALPARAISO, Ind. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming fell on the road in a rematch with Valparaiso on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon by respective scores of 140.5-121.5 and 147-115. The Panthers combined for ten first place finishes on the day.
The losses drop the EIU men to 1-7 overall, while the Panther women now sit at 3-6 on the season. The sweep by the Crusaders help avenge the Panthers' previous home sweep early in the season back on November 15.
First place winners for the guys included
Steve Fishman bringing home a pair of wins in the in the 200-Free (1:45.95) and 200-IM (2:00.43, while
Jake Roberts also won twice in the 500-Free (5:03.35) and 1000-Free (10:24.53) events and
Brogan O'Doherty followed by winning both his 50-Back (24.19) and 100-Back (53.11) races.
Amy Smith won her 100-Back (1:01.10) event, while
Kaylee Morris and
Danielle DiMatteo each touched first in their respective 50-Free (24.34) and 50-Back (28.86) races.
The Panther women's foursome of Smith, DiMatteo, Morris and
Kelsey Ferguson also won the final 200-Free Relay event for the final point tally.
Both Panther squads will now prepare for their final home dual meet next Friday (Jan. 30) evening, as EIU will entertain Saint Louis at 5 p.m.
