CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis continue early 2015 season action on Saturday (Jan. 31) with respective matches versus Nebraska and Dayton. The men will play the Huskers at 8 a.m. on neutral territory in Des Moines, Iowa, while the women will host the Flyers at 2 p.m. at the nearby Wabash Valley Tennis Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Panther men enter the weekend at 0-2 on the season, after dropping a tough 5-2 road match at Ball State last weekend. The Eastern women, meanwhile, also fell last weekend at Indiana by a 6-1 score, marking the in their season-opener at Indiana by a 6-1 score
"We are looking forward to getting back on the court tomorrow," said director of tennis and head women's coach John Blackburn. "I think we learned about ourselves last weekend and following some great practices this week we're excited and look forward to competing on Saturday."
"We are looking forward to getting better and this weekend's match versus a very good Nebraska squad will be a great test for the guys," said Eric Stark, associate director and skipper of the men's team. "I'm looking for us to come out with a lot of energy and have a great collective team match. I'm really interested to see the areas where we have improved in doubles. Thus far we have gotten better each week so I'm hoping we continue that trend."
Prior to facing Drake, the Husker men sport an 0-1 mark after losing their opener to Oklahoma State. The Dayton women, meanwhile, are an even 1-1 on the early campaign, as the Flyers dispatched IUPUI but lost to Northern Iowa.
Next week the Eastern men return to the court with a mid-week road trip to Indianapolis on Tuesday (Feb. 3), before facing both Michigan State and Valparaiso the following Saturday (Feb. 7). The Panther women will next play on Saturday as well, traveling to Bloomington-Normal to face the Redbirds of Illinois State.
