CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Prior to competing at next week's Ohio Valley Conference meet, the Eastern Illinois men's golf squad will have one final spring tuneup at the Xavier Invitational being played at the Par 71, 6,809-yard Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Following today's practice round, 54 holes of action gets underway on Monday & Tuesday (April 20-21).
Besides the Panthers and host Minutemen, other schools competing include Akron, Butler, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, St. John's, Western Kentucky, and Wright State. Two fellow OVC squads -- Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State -- will also partake in the two-day meet.
EIU head coach Mike Moncel plans on playing seniors Oscar Borda, James Jansen & Brady Welsh, plus sophomores Marcus Dahlin & Daniel Hughes. "We had a good week and a half of practice with plenty of rounds," said Moncel. "James is currently playing very well as has Brady. This week will mark the first time we've ever played this course, so really don't know much about it other then the greens are expected to be very fast."
Through seven events during the 2014-15 fall and spring season, Borda continues to pace all Panthers with a 76.5 stroke average, followed closely by Dahlin's 77 mark, while Jansen and Daniel Hughes own respective 77.4 and 77.5 averages.
Eastern will next compete at the end-of-season league championship, set for April 24-26 at the The Shoals down in Alabama.
