CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois men's tennis team has their first two of four home duals scheduled at the Darling Courts in Charleston, Ill. this weekend. The Panthers take on the Bruins of Belmont on Friday at 2 pm and the Tigers of Tennessee State on Saturday at 10 am.
Robert Skolik looks to keep his momentum going after winning his fourth straight match at Austin Peay to improve to 7-6 this season.
The Panthers are 3-10 on the season with a conference record of 1-2 going into this weekend's matches. Belmont is 5-8 so far this year and 1-3 in the OVC having lost seven of their last eight matches. Tennessee State is 7-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference with a match against SIU Edwardsville Friday before taking on EIU.
Currently, EIU has no common opponents with either Belmont or Tennessee State; however, EIU dropped a very close match to SIUE 4-3 whom Tennessee State will play on Friday.
The EIU men's team has only played Belmont three times in its history, but have yet to earn a victory as the Bruins hold a 3-0 series record over the Panthers. The Panthers lost last season's match to Belmont 6-1 with Grant Reiman earning the sole victory defeating Geoff Tulloch 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.Â
On the other hand EIU has never lost to Tennessee State holding a perfect 17-0 series record over TSU. In the series history between the two schools Tennessee State has only won four match points against EIU throughout all 17 games played including last year's 5-1 victory for the Panthers. Rui Silva will look to avenge his loss to TSU's Kyle Burton from last season.
Both Belmont and TSU have a losing record in true road games so far this season as the Bruins are 1-3 on the road while the Tigers have a record of 3-5.
Following this weekend's home duals, the Panthers continue their home stand next weekend with two more duals starting Friday [Apr. 8] at 10 am against Jacksonville State followed by a match Saturday [Apr. 9] at 11 am against Tennessee Tech.
