CHARLESTON, Ill. - It was another conference triumph for the EIU women Friday morning, sweeping the Belmont Bruins 7-0 at home. The loss drops the Bruins to 2-11 while the Panthers record improves to 10-5 on the year and 4-1 in conference play.
The Panthers lit up Darling Courts, earning the opening match point in doubles play and subsequently sweeping the three doubles contests.
In singles competition Kelly Iden defeated her opposition 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, paving the way for the Panthers to rattle off six straight victories on their way to the sweep. Grace Summers improved to 13-1 with her win over Suzanna Stapler 6-0,6-1 from the No. 3 position.
Ali Foster bounced back from last week's loss at the hands of Murray State, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kendall Warren. Abby Carpenter picked up her fourth win of the season improving to 2-0 in OVC play following a come from behind three set victory 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The win over Belmont marks the eighth sweep for the EIU women this season.
EIU will be back at it Saturday at 1 pm as the match has been changed to the indoor courts in Danville due to the weather. The Panthers look to jump to the top spot in the conference with a win over the Tennessee State Tigers.
