Women's Tennis Heads To Dayton For The Weekend

The EIU women's tennis team will spend a few days in Dayton, Ohio as they take on Dayton and Wright State in weekend duals.

CHARLESTON, Ill.- This weekend the Panther women's tennis team travels to Dayton, Ohio for two days of play starting with the Dayton Flyers on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by the Wright State Raiders on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

EIU is off to a promising start following their 5-2 season-opening victory against Southern Illinois last Sunday.

Panther Senior Kelly Iden and Freshman Stella Cliffe won their first doubles set of the season against SIU.

The veteran-rookie combo moves into this weekend with winning records for both their single and doubles matches in the season-opener.

The Flyers are 0-1 heading into Friday after losing to Wright State 4-3 last weekend.

This is the first matchup against the Flyers since the 2015 season, where Eastern held their own winning the match 4-3. Eastern is 4-1 all-time against Dayton having only lost the very first match against the Flyers in 1999.

Starting the first month of the season on the road is nothing new for the Panthers as they do so every season. Eastern will play on back-to-back days the majority of their 2017 season and will not begin home play until Feb 26.

Following their match against the Flyers, the Panthers remain in town to take on Wright State. EIU is undefeated against the Raiders having won both previous meetings in 2003 and 1994.

The Raiders are 3-2 on the year heading into Saturday's match after being swept by Notre Dame 7-0 in their last match.

Following this weekend's match slate the Panthers prepare to take on Bradley Saturday (Feb. 4).
