INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Eastern Illinois men's tennis team closed out the weekend on a high note defeating Marian (Ind.) 7-2 Sunday afternoon.

With the win, EIU improves to 3-16 on the year while Marian falls to 14-7. 

With doubles matches being scored individually, the Panthers jumped out to a 2-1 lead over the Knights with wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Jared Woodson and Jacob Wendell battled to a 9-8 (5) win over Marcus Hirsch and Alex Wittenbaum to earn their second win of the year along with the duo of Gage Kingsmith and Grant Reiman.

In singles play, Kingsmith earned his first career win from the No. 1 spot downing his Marian counterpart in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (7). Two more Panthers went into a third set during Sunday's match with Trent Reiman picking up a win at the No. 5 position 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (6). Twin brother Grant Reiman came back to force a third set against Danny Albert, but ultimately fell 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (7) at the No. 3 spot.

EIU looks to carry this momentum back into conference play as they travel to Belmont next Friday (Mar. 31) at 2 p.m.
