NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Eastern Illinois men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Belmont Friday afternoon in Nashville. The loss puts the Panthers at 3-17 on the season and 0-4 in conference. Belmont now holds a 5-0 series record against EIU.
Though being swept by Belmont, the Panthers did not make it a walk in the park.
In singles competition in the No. 3 and No. 6 positions,
Grant Reiman and
Ferdinand Ammer forced a tiebreaker set against their opponents.
Grant Reiman put pressure on his opponent in the first set but would eventually be defeated 7-6 (5), 6-1. Ammer was defeated 6-1, 7-6 (4) but was very competitive nearly forcing a third set against Stephan Goldman.
In doubles competition, the duo of
Grant Reiman and
Gage Kingsmith picked up the Panthers only win defeating their opponent 7-6 (6) at the No. 1 position. This is the second win in a row for
Grant Reiman and Kingsmith as the pair improves to 3-5 this season.
Tomorrow the Eastern Illinois men's tennis team looks to bounce back and win their first conference match at 10 a.m. against Tennessee State to close out the weekend.
