NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Eastern Illinois women's tennis team began their weekend in Nashville with a 5-2 win over OVC contender Belmont Friday afternoon.

The victory puts the Panthers back on track as they snap a two-game losing streak and hold a record of 10-6 on the season.

The Panthers were able to win the doubles point by taking two of the three doubles matches against the Bruins. Stella Cliffe and Kelly Iden held their own against Laura Kent and Laura Van Eeckhoudt with a 6-1 win in doubles play snapping a two-match losing streak to improve to 8-7 on the season. Grace Summers and Kamile Stadalninkaite picked up their eighth win as a doubles pair as well with a 6-3 win from the No. 2 spot.

Overall, the Panthers doubles teams are 24-19 this season.

In singles play, Eastern's Iden defeated Kent 3-6, 7-6, 10-5 in the No. 1 position to go to 11-5 on the year. Not to be outdone, Cliffe snapped a four-match losing streak with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position to match Iden at 11-5 this season.

Summers represented the No. 2 spot for the Panthers by topping Eeckhoudt 6-4, 6-1 with Emily Pugachevsky picking up the final win for EIU at the No. 6 position.

EIU will play again Saturday morning against Tennessee State at 10 a.m.
