Eastern Illinois men's tennis returns to action this weekend while the Panther women's tennis team opens up the 2018 spring campaign.
EIU Men
The EIU men's team opened the season on Monday evening falling at Big Ten member Indiana, 7-0. The Panthers featured two freshmen in the line-up with
Kaisei Kuroki playing at No. 2 singles and
Logan Charbonneau playing at No. 4 singles. The doubles tandem of
Gage Kingsmith and
Grant Reiman had the most competitive match at the No. 2 spot, falling 6-4 to the Hoosiers doubles team.
This Saturday EIU will play at Ball State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (Eastern) with the match to take place the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. Ball State is also 0-1 on the season losing at Indiana on Monday afternoon, 6-1.
EIU Women
On the women's side the Panthers will open with matches at Illinois State on Saturday and Illinois on Sunday. Saturday's match against the Redbirds will take place at 4 p.m. while Sunday's contest at Illinois will begin at 4 p.m. at the Atkins Tennis Center.
In the fall semester EIU had three players finish with winning records in individual play. Freshman
Rachel Papavasilopoulos posted an impressive 9-2 record during fall tournament play including advancing to the first round of the ITA Midwest Regional Main Draw.
Abby Carpenter finished with a 5-3 record during the fall while
Emily Pugachevsky posted a 7-5 singles record. In doubles action during the fall EIU had 11 different combinations play doubles with
Claire Martin and Shristi Slaria finishing with a 2-1 record. No doubles group played more than four matches together.
