MUNCIE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis faced Ball State in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon with the Panthers losing a pair of tightly contested matches. Ball State won the first match 4-3 and then the second match 4-2 with the final point unfinished following the Cardinals win.
EIU falls to 0-5 on the year and will host Western Illinois on Saturday at the Danville Tennis Center. Ball State improved to 3-1 on the year.
Stella Cliffe won both of her matches playing for the Panthers at No. 2 singles. She faced Sarah Swiderski in both matches winning the first match by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Cliffe won the second match over Swiderski by a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and
Grace Summers won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles for the Panthers in the first match of the day. Papavasilopoulos defeated Lilya Hadab by a score of 7-6 (7), 6-3. Summers won her match over Audrey Berger by a score of 7-6 (7), 6-4. Berger would defeat Summers at No. 3 singles in the second match of the day. Papavasilopoulos was winning 2-0 in the third set of her match against Peyton Gollhofer when Ball State clinched the second match to end the competition.
Emily Pugachevsky won the other point of the day for EIU playing at No. 6 singles in the second contest. Pugachevsky beat Julie Sbirrea, 6-4, 6-2, playing at No. 6 singles.
