Doubles Draw
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis competed at the ITA Midwest Regional with four players entered in the qualifying singles draw. Those four players were then placed in the doubles draw.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and
Claire Martin both picked up wins in their opening match in the qualifying draw before losing in their second matches of the regional. Last season as a freshman Papavasilopoulos had reached the main singles draw after a 3-0 record in the qualifying bracket.
This season Papavasilopoulos beat Zoe Taylor of Notre Dame in the opening match winning 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. It was the first time this fall that Papavasilopoulos had not won her match in straight sets. In her second match Papavasilopoulos lost to seeded player Luna Dormet of Ohio State 6-3, 6-4.
Martin won her opening match of the draw with a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-2 win over Cassandra Moraleja of Youngstown State. Martin lost her second set, 6-4, 6-4, to Kristina Pukhaeva of Chicago State.
Srishti Slaria and
Emily Pugachevsky both lost their opening regional matches. Slaria lost to seeded player Davina Nguyen of Michigan State, 7-6, 6-3. Pugachevsky lost 6-4, 6-1 to Iesha Shepherd of Chicago State.
In doubles action Papavasilopoulos and Martin beat the doubles team from Detroit, 8-6, before losing to a seeded doubles team from Northwestern, 8-7 (1). Slaria and Pugachevsky played as the other doubles team falling in their opening match 8-0 to a seeded team from Wisconsin.
