PEORIA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis played the second match of a full weekend slate on Saturday afternoon with the Panthers beating Bradley, 5-2. The Panthers are now 1-1 on the weekend after a Friday loss at Big Ten member Indiana. The schedule wraps up on Sunday at the University of Indianapolis.
EIU opened the match winning the doubles point as EIU won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. The win at No.3 singles by
Karla Contreras and
Emily Pugachevsky gave the Panthers the doubles point. EIU won 6-3.
Stella Cliffe and
Grace Summers won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play EIU extended its lead to 3-0 in the match as
Claire Martin won at No. 6 singles by default. Cliffe won at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Sandra Maletin.
The Braves closed the match score to 3-2 with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Summers would lock up the win for the Panthers at No. 2 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Natalia Barbery.
Contreras won the final point for EIU at No. 5 singles beating Kinga Kovacs by a score of 7-6 (12-10), 6-2.
EIU is now 3-6 on the season. Bradley fell to 3-3.
