Women's Tennis Beats Chicago State, 5-2

Panthers rally from down 2-0 to win match

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis opened its weekend with a 5-2 win over Chicago State on Friday afternoon.

EIU improved to 4-7 on the season and will play at Northern Illinois on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.   Chicago State fell to 2-8.

Chicago State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match as the Cougars clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 after EIU won the opening doubles match with Stella Cliffe and Grace Summers winning 6-2 at No. 1.

The Cougars would then extend their lead to 2-0 with Iesha Shepherd knocking off Karla Contreras at No. 5 singles.

The Panthers would rally and win the next five singles matches.  Cliffe won the first EIU point at No. 1 singles winning 6-3, 6-3 over Mariya Kostyuk.  Srishti Slaria won at No. 3 singles to square the match at 2-2.  Slaira won 7-5, 6-2 over Leshia Gadacz.

Emily Pugachevsky put EIU up with a win at No. 4 singles and Summers clinched the match for EIU with a three set win at No. 2 singles.
