Eastern Illinois starts their indoor track season off on the right foot taking all but one event in the EIU Early Bird Meet. It marked the first official meet for new track and field coach Keith Roberts.

For the EIU men's indoor track and field team, Bradley Olysav on the weight throwing event with a throw of 16.27m. Olysav also won the men's shot put with a throw of 15.82m. James Boyd won the men's pole vault for the Panthers with a height of 4.12m. Sean Hopkins collected his first win of the season in the long jump with a jump of 7.09m.

Steven Rowe also picked up a win in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.05m. Jekeel Suber won the finals in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.38. Cameron Yarbrough followed up with a win of his own in the men's 60m with a time of 7.78. Yarbrough also finished first in the men's 200m with a time of 22.23. Riley Baker picked up a win for the Panthers in the men's 400m with a time of 50.23.

The men's team finished with one last win in the men's 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:25.95. Ricky Johnson, Josiah Neal, Suber, and Riley Baker ran the relay for EIU.

The women's team started off hot in the women's weight throwing when Taylor Iverson threw for 15.10m to pick up her first first place finish of the season. Clayre Shaver followed that up with a win in the shot put with a throw of 12.75m. Hallee Thomas picked up a win in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.05m. 

Taryn Tarquin earned first place in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.19m. Madison Myrick also earned first place in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.60m. Akiya Kollore earned her first place victory in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.67. Danielle Frank followed that up with a win of her own in the women's 60m with a time of 7.78.

Zakiya Johnson was the only women's runner to finish under a minute in the 400m which earned her first place with a time of 59.64. Vivica Coleman also posted a first place finish in the women's 200m with a time of 26.32. The women's relay team of Kollore, Johnson, Mckenna Wojcicki, and Shanjsa Stinson finished first in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:07.37.

The Panthers will be action next on Friday, Jan. 14 thru Saturday, Jan. 15 at the EIU John Craft Invite.
