Eastern Illinois men's track & field collected two Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards following the Panthers performances this past weekend at the 116th Drake Relays.
Maliek Bush was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week with
Machi Nelson named the Male Freshman of the Week.
Bush competed in two events and won OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week after a first place effort in the long jump. Bush beat a field of 24 competitors in the long jump landing at 24'1.75" for the week. In addition, Bush ran the third leg on the Panthers 4x100 team that just missed qualifying for the finals with a ninth place finish and time of 41.60.
Nelson won his second OVC Male Freshman of the Week honor of the outdoor season after solid performances in both the long jump and high jump. Nelson placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 23'3.25" while posting a 13th place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 6'6". Nelson currently ranks first in the OVC in the long jump with his earlier season performance at the EIU Big Blue Classic, a mark that has him ranked 46th in the NCAA West Regional entering the week.
EIU returns to action this weekend as they travel just up the interstate to compete in the Illinois Gary Wieneke Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
