Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field will remain in the local area this week as the Panthers travel just up the road to compete in the Illinois Gary Wieneke Invite on Friday and Saturday in Champaign.Ā Ā  The two day event is scheduled to begin at 12 pm each day at Demirjian Park.

Following performances last week at the 116th Drake Relays, Maliek Bush and Machi Nelson both collected Ohio Valley Conference Weekly Awards.

Bush was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the long jump with a mark of 24'1.75".Ā  Bush also ran the third leg on the 4x100 relay team that placed ninth, just missing qualifying for the finals.

Nelson was named the OVC Male Freshman of the Week picking up the honor for the second time this season. He was seventh in the long jump and 13th in the high jump.Ā Ā  Entering the week Nelson ranks 46th in the NCAA West Region in the long jump with his mark from earlier this season also ranking first in the OVC.

The Panthers had two school top ten performances turned in at the Drake Relays.Ā  Ashlyn Denney was second in the women's 800 meter run with her time of 2:10.05 ranking ninth best in school history.

The women's 4x100 relay team continues to improve with each additional race.Ā  They originally posted the second best time in school history on Friday with a qualifying time of 45.54.Ā  The quartet came back in the Saturday event finals and turned in a time of 45.29 which improved their school second place time.Ā  The relay team included Abby Venhaus, Kenyetietta Quinn, Annabelle Coudron and Analena Peterson.

Venhaus later turned in a second place finish in the women's long jump landing at 19'4.75".Ā  Layla Bonilla was second in the women's triple jump at 39'10.75".

Shawn Lacy had the final top three performance at the Drake Relays finishing third in the javelin with a throw of 193'4".
