Panthers post six individual first place finishes, several EIU Top 10's

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's outdoor track took advantage of great weather on the first day of the Spring as the Panthers posted six individual first place finishes and three relay first place finishes at the Southern Illinois Bill Cornell Classic.

The EIU men won the team scoring while the Panther women placed fourth on a day that also saw four individuals and one relay team post EIU top ten marks.

Adam Swanson had one of the best days for the Panthers as he won the men's 800 meter run posting a time of 1:49.66 which ranked not only fifth on the EIU all-time career charts but currently is the fifth best 800m time in the NCAA West Region through the opening two weeks of the season.Ā  Kate Bushue picked up a first place in the women's 800 meter race winning with a time of 2:15.37.

The EIU women's 4x100 relay team posted a first place finish with a time of 46.42 which ranks as the eighth best time in school history.Ā  The relay team included Shanisa Stinson, Danielle Frank, Zakiya Johnson and Akiya Kollore.Ā Ā  Ā The EIU men's 4x100 relay team also placed first crossing with a time of 41.12.Ā  The men's relay team included Brailyn Johnson, Shandall Thomas, Cameron Yarbrough and Tadiwa Mhonde.Ā

Thomas would add a first place finish in the men's 100 meter dash winning with a time of 10.52 while Johnson was second at 10.64.

Riley Baker, Franky Romano and Mason Jones all added first place finishes for the EIU men on the track.Ā  Baker won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.03.Ā  Romano won the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:57.65 and Jones won the steeplechase with a time of 9:58.02.Ā Ā  Baker would add another first place finish on the men's 4x400 meter relay running the second leg as the team posted a time of 3:16.75.Ā  Damian Clay ran the opening leg on the relay joined by Baker, Mhonde and Ricky Johnson.Ā Ā  The women's 4x400 relay team placed third with a time of 4:04.45 including Stinson, Kollore, Johnson and Frank.Ā

Kollore would place second in the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.20 which is the ninth best time in school history.Ā  Jekeel Suber placed third in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.66.Ā Ā  Mckenna Wojcicki was third in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.79.

Steven Rowe cleared 6'10.75" in the men's high jump to finish second in the event.Ā  His mark was tied for the fourth best height in school history.Ā  On the women's side Madison Myrick was second in the high jump clearing 5'5".

Caroline Lendy was second in the javelin with her throw of 131'3" ranking as the ninth best in EIU history.Ā  Additional top three finishes in field events for the weekend for the Panthers belonged to: Joe Smith (2nd in triple jump at 47'11"), Ramsey Hunt (3rd in triple jump at 46'0.75"0), Bradley Olysav (2nd in shot put at 51'7.25"), Matthew Gladieux (3rd in shot put at 50'), Gregory Downs (2nd in long jump at 21'4.75"), Nicholas Phillips (2nd in hammer at 190'2").

Additional top three men's finishes in track events for EIU belonged to Downs (2nd in 400m at 50.80), James Allen (3rd in 400m at 51.04), Rickey Johnson (2nd in 200m at 21.88) beating Mhonde by photo finish (3rd in 200m at 21.88), Andrew Pilat (2nd in 5000m at 14:53.44) and Richie Jacobo (3rd in 5000m at 15:03.70).Ā Ā  Mackenzie Aldridge rounded out the top three EIU women placing third in the 5000 meter at 18:16.04.
