Panthers Face Off With The Governors
After a two-week long COVID layover, Eastern Illinois looks to get back on track in a road matchup against the Governors of Austin Peay. The Panthers currently sit at 6-7 overall and 1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference Play. Tipoff is set for 5 pm.

Last Game
The Panthers came up short at home against Belmont, losing 57-71 to the Bruins on New Year's Day.  Lariah Washington led the Panthers with 15 points for her 11th double-digit performance in 13 games this season.  Abby Wahl scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Kira Arthofer contributed with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Player to Watch
Freshman Forward Taris Thornton leads the team with five blocked shots on the season.  She contributed some quality minutes in the second half of EIU's last game against Belmont, hitting a big three-point shot as the third quarter winded down, making two free throws, securing two rebounds, and recording a steal.  While fellow freshmen Miah Monahan and Julia Bengtson have been quality contributors in the backcourt off the bench this season, Thornton could potentially be emerging as a much-needed contributor off the bench in the frontcourt for the Panthers.

Scouting The Governors
Austin Peay is led by first-year head coach Brittany Young. The Governors currently hold a 9-5 overall record and a 2-2 OVC record this season. In their most recent contest, Austin Peay lost on the road to Belmont 65-46. The Governors are led in scoring by Senior Guard Yamia Johnson, who averages 15.9 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. Graduate Guard Karle Pace, a transfer from Eastern Illinois, is also averaging double figures for Austin Peay with 14.1 points per game. Freshman Forward Lyric Cole leads the Governors with 6.9 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the OVC.

Saturday will mark the 54th all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Governors. Austin Peay leads the all-time series 31-22. Each team won on the road In the two meetings a season ago, as the Governors defeated the Panthers 77-68 in Charleston on January 9 and EIU won in Clarksville 62-59 on February 20.
