ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois swimming will travel to Wabash College as they return to action for their first meet since Dec. 4 when they swam against Bellarmine at Indiana State. The men's team will compete against Wabash College while the women's team will compete against DePauw University. Both Panther squads are coming off hard fought losses in their last meet.
FIRST MEETING: This marks the first time in school history that the Panthers will travel to Wabash College to face off against the Little Giants. EIU will be competing in the Class of 1950 Natatorium which is an eight-lane pool with 40-meter lanes. The men's team won their last meeting against Wabash when they defeated them 187-78, and saw 12 Panthers post a first place finish.
MEN'S RECAP (12/4): The men's team earned a first place finish in the 200 yard relay with the team of
Forrest Baumgartner,
Collin Feliciano,
Jacob Nichols, and
Dismas Dillon in their last meet. They finished with a time of 1:35.58. Wilson also finished third in the 1000 yard free with a time of 10:16.47 against Bellarmine.
Jacob Wienants posted a second place finish for EIU in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:48.48. Felicinao picked up a second place finish in the 100 yard breast with a time of 1:00.67.
Dillon earned the second win for the men's team in the 50 yard free with a time of 21.29.
Payton Buse also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 22.04. Buse would then add a first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 48.59 while Dillion earned second place with a time of 49.30. Connor Colston earned a second place finish in the 500 yard free (4:55.31). EIU men's swimming ended the meet with a first place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:15.04. The team was comprised of
Spencer Wilson, Buse, Dismas, and Colston.
WOMEN'S RECAP (12/4): Ashley Glesing finished in third in the 100 yard breast with a time of 1:08.82. Cameryn Lewis finished fourth in the 50 yard free with a time of 24.87.
Maddie Pittman added a fourth place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:33.67.
Corinne Staneart picked up a second place finish in the 100 yard free with a time of 1:01.47.
Emma Ballantyne also added a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.35. The relay team of Pittman,
Autumn Grinter,
Kaylan Ottosen, and Lewis finished in second place with a time of 3:45.04.
NEXT UP: After the Panthers' meet against Wabash and DePauw, EIU will return home for their final home meet against Valparaiso on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m. in Padovan Pool. This will be the last regular season meet before The Summit League Championships in West Fargo, N.D.
HEAD COACH: Coach Donges comes to EIU after a successful one-year stop at Anderson University where he coached swimmers on the men's and women's teams to 22 school records last season. In 2019, Donges was head coach at the EXOS/Bryan Glazer Jewish Community Center in Tampa, Florida. He developed the swimming fitness program for the team and was in charge of recruiting for the club. He coached for seven years with Yorktown Swim Club, beginning in 2012, taking over as head coach in 2015. During his time as head coach, Donges oversaw the direction of swimming for all athletes at the Yorktown Swim Club. He also took the lead in marketing and recruitment associated with Yorktown Swim Club. He graduated from Ball State University with both a bachelor's and master's degree.
