Panthers Compete in Indiana Gladstein Invite

Panthers have 21 athletes earn at least a fifth place finish

Eastern Illinois traveled to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend to compete in the Indiana Gladstein Invitational. Overall, 21 Panthers earned a fifth place or better in their event. The two-day meet was the first of the indoor season for EIU.

On Day 1 of the Indiana Gladstein Invitational, Alicia Adams earned a third place finish in the women's 400 meter with a time of 1:00.46. Makhtar Mbaye also placed fifth in the men's 400 meter with a time of 50.65. Dustin Hatfield earned Eastern's only first place finish on day one when he placed first in the men's 3000 meter with a time of 8:09.84. His time also ranks third all-time in EIU'S history.

In the same event, Jamie Marcos also earned a third place finish with a time of 8:11.88. His time ranks sixth all-time on Eastern's list. In the women's 60 meter hurdles final, Akiya Kollore placed fourth with a time of 8.67. She also placed second in her heat during the first round. Jekeel Suber and Stenoree Allen both placed in the top five during the men's 60 meter hurdle final. Suber placed third (8.15) and Allen placed fourth (8.30). 

During the men's 60 meter final, Brailyn Johnson picked up a fifth place finish with a time of 6.94. At the conclusion of Day 1, Richie Jacobo earned a second place finish in the men's 5000 meter with a time of 14:59.68.

At the start of Day 2, Whitney Zumbahlen placed fourth in the women's 600 meter. Josiah Neal followed her performance with a fifth place in the men's 600 meter (1:22.69). Adam Swanson placed third in the first final for the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:54.80. Nick Oakley also placed fifth in that event with a time of 1:57.84.In the second final for the women's 800 meter, Katie Springer placed fourth (2:18.30) and Kate Bushue (2:18.39) placed fifth.

Bradley Olysav earns a fifth place finish in the men's shot put event with a throw of 14.77m. Eastern had two men's high jumpers place in the top five. Elijah Skutt placed third with a distance of 2.00m and Steven Rowe finished in fourth in a jump of 2.00m. Sean Hopkins also added a fifth place finish in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.82m.

EIU's women's 4 x 400 meter relay team placed fourth in the meet thanks to Kollore, Adams, Mckenna Wojcicki, and Zumbahlen (4:04.25). The men's 4 x 400 meter relay team also placed fourth. The team of Riley Baker, Mbaye, Suber, and Josiah Neal finished with a time of 3:20.51.

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Meyo Invite. This marks the first time since the 2019-20 indoor track season since the Panthers last traveled to Notre Dame.
