Eastern Illinois wrapped up their indoor track and field meet at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational on Saturday afternoon which saw
Dustin Hatfield break the all-time EIU record for the 3000 meter with a time of 8:01.54. Hatfield had previously moved into third all-time with his time of 8:09.84.
At the end of Friday's events, EIU posted three top 10 finishes.
Akiya Kollore was eighth in the prelims of the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.72.
Sean Hopkins also placed fifth in the men's 60m prelims with a time of 6.90.
Riley Baker and
Josiah Neal both set new career bests in the men's 600m with Baker earning ninth place with a time of 1:19.70 and Neal earning 16th place with a time of 1:21.00. Baker's time ranks third all time at Eastern and Neal's ranks ninth all-time.
Multiple Panthers placed in the top-20 for the men and women's 200m race that concluded the first day. Kollore earned 12th place in the women's event with a time of 25.04 which set her new career best.
Ricky Johnson placed 16th in the men's race with a time of 22.20 which also set his new career best in the event. Jaheel Perrin earned himself a 20th place with a finals time of 22.42, and also earned himself a new career best.
The Panthers would find continued success on day two when Kollore finished 12th in the women's 60m semifinals with a time of 8.85.
Shanisa Stinson also joined Kollore in the semifinals earning fourteenth place with a time of 8.97.Â
Vivica Coleman finished 21st in the women's 60m dash and finished with a time of 7.93.
Hopkins placed fourth in the men's 60m semifinals which qualified him for the finals with a time of 6.87. Other Panthers who raced in the semifinals were Perrin who finished in 16th place (7.03) and
Brailyn Johnson who finished in 19th place (7.12).
Bradley Olysav finished in 29th in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.61.
In the men's 60m finals, Hopkins picked up a third place finish with a time time of 6.87. Hopkins also earned an eighth place finish in the men's long jump competition with a distance of 7.06m.
Ramsey Hunt also finished in 10th in the same event with a jump of 6.95m.
Steven Rowe helped the field team pick up a fourth place finish in the men's high jump with a distance of 2.04m.
The meet ended with the Ryan Shay 3000m race which saw Hatfield take home back-to-back wins in the event while also setting new school and career records. His time of 8:01.54 ranks first in the Ohio Valley Conference. Teammate Jamie Marcos also finished third in the 3000m finishing with a time of 8:03.43 which ranks second in the OVC and third all-time at Eastern Illinois.
EIU will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 11 when they travel to Allendale, Mich. to compete in the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
