Eastern Illinois women's tennis returns to action this week as the Panthers host Chicago State on Friday at the Danville Tennis Center with an 2:30 pm start. EIU won three straight matches last week to improve to 7-7 on the season.
The Panthers won a pair of matches at the Danville Tennis Center against Millikin before a road win over IUPUI on Sunday night.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova was named the OVC Player of the Week following the week earning the honor for the second time this season.
Madeline Monroy and
Brittany Steven were named the OVC Doubles Team of the Week for their efforts marking the second time this season they had been honored.
Bukraba-Ulanova improved to 10-4 on the season as she has moved into a tie with Grace Summers for third in the EIU record book with 23 career wins at No. 2 singles. She has 33 career singles wins in her four-year EIU career.
Monroy and Steven improved to 8-5 in doubles play this season going 3-0 at No. 2 doubles last week. They are tied for the team lead in doubles wins with Bukraba-Ulanova and
Christine Gouws who have eight wins at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play Monroy has the longest active win streak for the Panthers with five straight wins in singles action. Monroy is 7-7 on the season with her last lost on Feb. 18 at Bradley. She has won five straight playing between the No. 3 and No. 5 spots in the singles order.
EIU will be playing Chicago State for the 22nd time with the Panthers leading the all-time series 17-4. CSU won last year's contest and enters the weekend at 7-11 this season.
EIU will travel for a Spring Break match in Florida early next week before opening Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend at home.
