Eastern Illinois women's tennis has an opportunity to lock up at least a second place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference standings when they host SIUE on Saturday afternoon for the Panthers senior day.
EIU enters at 3-0 in the OVC, joining Southeast Missouri also among the undefeated conference teams. SIUE is 3-1 in OVC play with its loss to SEMO and this being their final conference match, so a win by EIU secures at least a No. 2 finish.
EIU improved to 3-0 in the OVC with a 4-3 win at Tennessee State last weekend with senior
Lauren Ellis capturing the deciding point as the Panthers won all four of their points in singles play. Ellis is now 12-8 on the year in singles play.
EIU also had singles wins from
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova (No. 2 singles),
Addison Brown (No. 4 singles) and
Madeline Monroy (No. 5 singles). Bukraba-Ulanova now has a 14-6 singles record this spring which leads the Panthers team. Monroy improved to 13-7 on the season extending her current singles win streak to 11 straight matches.
As a team EIU secured its first winning season since the 2017 season as they are 12-8 overall. The Panthers have won five straight matches and eight of their last nine contests.
EIU will host SIUE at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Rex Darling Courts on EIU's campus. The Panthers will honor seniors –
Christine Gouws,
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova,
Lauren Ellis,
Brittany Steven and
Claire Perez-Korinko following the match.
SIUE enters at 14-4 overall, 3-1 in the OVC. This will be the 19th meeting between the schools with the all-time series tied 9-9.
