Eastern Illinois hosts SIUE on Tuesday night for its final home game of the 2023-24 regular season. The Panthers had their four-game OVC win streak snapped on Saturday at Tennessee Tech as they fell to 13-16 overall, 10-6 in the OVC. EIU is currently locked in a three-way tie for second place in the OVC standings with Tennessee Tech and UT Martin. Those three schools hold a one game edge in the conference standings over Little Rock and Morehead State. The top eight teams make the OVC Tournament field with the top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinal round. The teams seeded No. 3 and No. 4 earn first round byes in the event next week in Evansville, Indiana. SIUE is playing its final week of the regular season as the Cougars were eliminated from the OVC Tournament race with losses last week falling to 5-24 overall, 2-14 in the OVC.
ANOTHER 20-POINT DAY FOR MCGLONE
Double-doubles have become somewhat routine this season for junior forward
Macy McGlone as she posted her 23rd this season in 29 games. That total ranks second in the NCAA for double-doubles and set the EIU school single season record for the category. Her rebounding total of 11.8 per game ranks in the top five in the NCAA as she moved into second on the EIU single season rebounding list with 343 on Saturday. The school single season record is 361 set by Toni Collins in 1981-82. McGlone also added three blocks to her season total at Tennessee Tech giving her 55 this season (fourth on EIU single season list - SR 61 by Rachel Galligan). While blocks and rebounding have been a big part of McGlone's game she scored 25 points at Tennessee Tech to record her 12th 20-point game this season and 16th of her career. Four times this season McGlone has been over 30 points in a game with a high of 33 at Morehead State.
PANTHERS SENIOR DAY SET FOR TUESDAY
Eastern Illinois will honor the three members of its women's basketball senior class prior to the game on Tuesday against SIUE. The three senior members that will be honored are
Emily Meidel,
Hannah Purcell and
Alana Vinson. Meidel has been a two-year member of the team averaging just under two points and two rebounds per game off the bench this season. She had a season-high nine points earlier this year against Tennessee Tech. Purcell is a two-year member of the team that had this season cut short due to injury after appearing in six games. Vinson had her Panther career shortened due to injury as well playing in nine career games.
