Eastern Illinois women's tennis wrapped up play at the Illinois State Redbird Invite over the weekend with two players winning the consolation bracket for their flights.
Ornella Lomenzo and
Luisa Renovales Salazar both were winners in the consolation draw of their flights.
Lomenzo lost the opening round match in the No. 1 flight but won her second match over Anna Sidorenko of St. Thomas winning 6-2, 6-3. She would win over Tiera Jarmond of Marquette by default. Lomenzo added one additional match on Sunday with a win over Honoka Yamashita of Milwaukee, 6-0, 6-3.
Renovalas Salazar also lost her opening round match playing in the No. 4 flight. She won the second match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nicole Iosio of Illinois State. She closed out singles play on Sunday with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 win over Elisa Rubio of Milwaukee.
EIU added singles wins by Emma Pilipovic-Klajajic in No. 6 singles flight with a consolation round win over Regina Talavera of St. Thomas. She won 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-0.
Michelle Kostadinova added a Sunday win over Brynn Steven of Valparaiso winning 8-4.
In doubles action
Charleigh Fay and
Michelle Kostadinova won a pair of matches winning over Marquette in a No. 1 doubles flight match.
Mila Larrieu and Lomenzo won a match over Marquette in No. 2 doubles play.
