EIU Track & Field Sends Competitors To Champaign And South Bend

Eastern Illinois will send competitors to both Illinois and Notre Dame this weekend. After a successful weekend at home for the John Craft Invite, EIU will look to build off their impressive performances. The Panthers will compete in the Fighting Illini Challenge and the Notre Dame Invitational.  



Men's Track: 

Last time out, Sam Bradbury kicked off the John Craft Invite by winning first place in the weight throw with an 18.66m mark, which ranks 6th all-time in program history. Machi Nelson earned gold in the long jump with a 6.97m mark, followed by Enoch-Appiah-Kubi claiming the top spot in the Men's Triple Jump with a 14.30m mark. Moving onto the running events, in the 60m hurdles, the Panthers earned the top four spots. Freshman Maxwell St. Clair earned gold, finishing in 8.37 seconds. Daniel and Shawn Lacy continue to dominate their competition in the Men's 60 Meter-dash. Daniel Lacy outpaced Shawn with a winning time of 6.77 seconds.   



Women's Track:  

In the field events during the John Craft Invite, Emily Sykes won the weight throw with a 14.39m mark. As usual, Abby Venhaus dominated the competition in the long jump, finishing at the top with a 5.66m mark. Venhaus also earned second place in the Women's 60 Meters with a time of 7.64 seconds, ranking 6th all-time in EIU history. Brenda Torres, the OVC preseason athlete to watch, claimed second place in the Women's Mile with a time of 5:04.99. In the 60m hurdles, NeVaeh Bryant finished first in 8.98 seconds.  



Layla Bonilla

The rookie is off to a great start to her indoor season, earning her first OVC weekly award. For her spectacular performance at the John Craft Invite, Bonilla was named the OVC Freshman Female Athlete of the Week. At the home meet, Bonilla dominated the Women's Triple Jump, earning a gold medal with an 11.80m mark. Her triple jump score ranks 8th in the EIU record book. Bonilla also placed second in the High Jump with a 1.63m mark.
