Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season At Sycamore Open

Panthers to compete at one day Indiana State meet

Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field will compete in its final regular season meet this Friday when the Panthers travel just across the state line to compete in the Indiana State Sycamore Open.
 
EIU is coming off a week where the Panthers posted four first place finishes at the Illinois Gary Wieneke Memorial Meet.  In addition, EIU had four performances land on the EIU career Top 10 list.
 
Weekend first place finishes were turned in by Cale Smith, Nathan Kirby, Ashlyn Denney and Marco Reynolds.
 
Smith won the men's steeplechase on Friday for the Panthers lone first day first place finish.  He won with a time of 9:05.99.
 
Nathan Kirby won the men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.12 which was one second better than his previous career best which ranks him tenth all-time at EIU.
 
Ashlyn Denney won the women's 800 meter run posting a school top ten mark for the second straight week winning the race with a time of 2:09.03.  The time moves her up to fifth best in school history.
 
Marco Reynolds won the women's discus throw with a first place finish of 144'07" to round out the Panthers weekend event winners.
 
Layla Bonilla landed the third best women's triple jump in school history as she finished second with a mark of 41'3.25".
 
Analena Peterson also moved up the EIU career top ten list in the women's 200 meter run on Friday with her third place time of 24.09 moving her up to seventh at EIU.
 
Entering the final week of the regular season Eastern Illinois has four men's athletes that rank first in the OVC in their individual event with the women's 4x100 relay team also ranked first.   The four OVC men leading individual events are Cale Smith (Steeplechase), Machi Nelson (Long Jump), Alex Stout (Shot Put) and Shawn Lacy (Javelin).
